Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and eMarketing
Targeting the right traffic on the major search engines is the difference between having a site only accessed by people you give your web address to - say on your business card - and having your web site acting as an extra salesman actively out there looking for a new relevant audience.
Five steps to good Search Engine Optimisation
Step 1: Keywords
selection & competitor analyis
It is important to select the right keywords for your pages. They need to reflect your actual page content, ie. be relevent, and reflect what your target audiance is likely to search for.
Analsye your online competition to find out what keywords they are targeting and how their page content is optimised. There's no point not benefitting from your competitions hard work.
Step 2: On page optimisation
Always optimise the Title, Description & Keyword tags for each page of the site. Ensure that each pages META data, heading, comment and alt tags accurately reflects the content.
Step 3: Usability check
It's no good working hard to bring those customers to your site from the search engines, only to fail to convert them because your site is hard to navigate, or the actual content, whilst well optimised, just isn't appealing to look at, or is hard to understand. Make sure that from a human perspective the site works well.
Step 4: Link building
Find relevent sites and directories that you can submit you site to in order to start building up back-links. These help to greatly increase the importance & ranking the seach engines assign to your site.
Step 5: Submit you site to the search engines
Check to see that all the main search engines are indexing your site - they may have already found you from the link building work you have been doing, but if not submit a site map, or add your url.
